Intro

pass go & collect 200 gil

Synthesis is an online trading card game (aka TCG or oTCG) based on the epic video game series Final Fantasy.

The concept of a TCG is fairly simple: you collect little "cards," display them on your trading post site, and go wild trading, mastering, and leveling to your heart's content. Of course, there's more to it than just that, so keep on reading!

Gathering Cards

...it is the point of the TCG, after all.

There are all sorts of ways to receive cards here at Synthesis. The following is not an exhaustive list, but it covers just about everything.

[Your Starter Pack] When you join, you'll receive a starter pack consisting of four random cards from your collecting deck, ten random cards, a random special, one random coupon, one special coupon, and 20 gil. Not too shabby for just filing out a form, eh?

[Games] The true meat of the TCG. There are all sorts of games, of various difficulty, and updated biweekly or monthly. This is how you'll earn the majority of your cards, so don't forget to play them!

[Leveling Up] As you collect more cards, your level will go up. Your reward for gaining a level changes as you climb the ladder, so be sure to check what you'll be getting~

[Mastering a Deck] Once you collect all of the cards from a specific deck, you've mastered it! Just like leveling, you rewards for mastering depend on the specific type of deck you've mastered. But there is a catch: Once you master a deck, you can't trade those cards anymore. Otherwise you wouldn't be a master!

[Trading] Most of the time, the best way to master decks is to find other members that have the cards you need, and trade with them! You'll be surprised how many people want cards that you don't. :3

[New Decks] When new decks are released, you'll be able to take cards from them as prescribed in the update. So keep an eye on that front page!

[Donations] You can also earn cards by donating to Synthesis; check out the Donations page for more info!

[Freebies] Another reason to watch the updates page is that, every once in a while, freebies will be given out. Be sure not to miss 'em!

[Referrals] If you're kind enough to refer someone to Synthesis (and they put you as their referrer on their join form), we'll thank you with two random cards. And if you refer several people...well, you just might get something special.

[Birthday] Last but not least, on your birthday you'll receive a special gift. Just a little something from us to you~ ♥

Your Trade Post

This is the most important part of the game, and it's up to you to maintain it. :3 If you aren't sure how to set up your trade post, it would be a good idea to check out the posts of other members as examples. Here are the basics of what you should have:

[Trade Log] Arguably the most important part of the most important part of a TCG. We run on the honor system, and your log is where you keep track of which cards you've gained or traded away, and how. It's also how the staff can make sure you aren't cheating~ :P

Here's a brief example of a good log entry:

01-16-08: played seed test and received aerith05. got refia04 from update freebies. traded my quistis15 for Tyna's rikku01.

[Level Badge] Post one of these so we can marvel at your high level! :3

[Button] Not required, but a link back to Synthesis is. Many people choose to link back with their level badge, but using a link button is also an option.

[Your Cards] Okay, maybe this is the most important part. ;D The more organized this section is, the more trades you are going to get. Most people break up their cards as so: Collecting (the cards you are working on mastering), Future Collections (the cards you aren't working on mastering right now, but will be in the future), Trading (the cards you are willing to part with in order to get those you want), and Mastered (where you can showcase your mastered decks~). You can further break these down to cards of different worth, pending trades...the possibilities are endless. But it's all up to you.

And that's that! If you're still confused, check out other members' trade posts. Sometimes seeing an example is best.

Cards

There are four different types of cards at Synthesis; they are explained below.

Game: Worth one. They consist of 20 cards of a specific Final Fantasy game. If it's sold as a Final Fantasy game, you will find a set of it under this heading.
Character: Worth one. They consist of 15 cards about a specific Final Fantasy character in a specific game. So if there is a set of Aerith from Final Fantasy VII, there can also be a set of Aerith from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core as well as Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. If the changes to a character are drastic in a game, they can have a seperate set for each game!
Scene: Worth one. They consist of 10 cards of a specific cutscene in a specific Final Fantasy game. Openings, Endings, and FMVs are used only.
Puzzle: Worth one. They're made from a Final Fantasy related image that's cut into 20 cards.
Special: Worth two. They consist of 10 cards and can be completely random. Some may be dedicated to a certain summon, others to box art. It really just depends~

Levels

The more cards you gain, the more levels you gain! When you level up, you get various cards and items to reward you for your efforts! Please look below to see the various levels, how many cards you need to reach that level, and what your prize will be for gaining that level. Also, remember that leveling up goes by card worth, not card count. So be sure to keep track of those Worth 2 cards.

Remember that you need the proper license to level up, as well! Check out the LB page for more info.

Mastering

There are four different types of cards at Synthesis, so that means there are four different prizes you can get for mastering sets! Please look below at each set and what you get for mastering it.

Game: 2 choice cards, 4 random worth one cards, 10 gil
Character: 1 choice card, 4 random worth one cards, 10 gil
Scene: 1 choice card, 3 random worth one cards, 5 gil
Puzzle: 2 choice cards, 4 random worth one cards, 10 gil
Special: 1 choice card, 1 random special, 2 random worth one cards, 20 gil

Gil

What would a Final Fantasy game be without gil? So, of course, you can earn it here at Synthesis, as well. You can get gil in all the same ways that you can get cards and it can be used in the shops to get you various items as well as cards.

Materia

There are five different types of materia distributed here. You can turn in a materia orb for a random card or you can wait until you have four materia orbs of the same type and get a choice from that type. Please look below to see what color of materia corresponds to what deck type!

Independent: Game decks
Magic: Character decks
Support: Scene decks
Command: Puzzle decks
Summon: Special decks

To make sure that you are likely to get less doubles, you will get certain types of materia more than others. You are most likely to get Magic materia because we have the most Character decks out of anything else! You are least likely to get Summon materia, so if you have a lot of summon materia, you are either very lucky or cheating. If we think you're cheating, we will investigate. We've done it before and we are not scared to do it again, so play fair!

Leaving Synthesis

We understand that some things don't work out, and you may have to leave Synthesis. That's perfectly fine. ♥ However, if a member fails to go on a hiatus or drop a line saying you won't be playing anymore, this is how the situation will be handled:

Member checks will be performed on the first of every month. If we find a member that has been inactive for one month, they will be placed on the inactive list. If the member is inactive for another two months, they will be deleted. If the deleted member wishes to start playing again, they must start over. The same applies to those who quit and come back. No exceptions.

This is a fair way to handle inactive members, as there is nothing more annoying than trying to find someone to trade with, only to find they are inactive. Besides, if you fail to be active in a TCG for three solid months, it is safe to say you are no longer interested in the game.
