LBs & You

can't do anything without a license nowadays...

Here at Synthesis, one of the ways you can spend your hard earned gil is to buy licenses. But why would you ever want to buy a "license"? Well, have a look at it yourself!

Your License Board (LB) is a very, very special thing. Not only does it help you level up, but you can also learn spells and special abilities from it. You also learn how to use various armor, weapons, & accessories!

Logistics

The Synthesis LBs work very much the same way as they do in Final Fantasy XII, except you buy licenses for available tiles with gil, rather than LP. But there's a catch. (There's always a catch.) You can only buy licenses for tiles DIRECTLY TOUCHING a tile you've already purchased.

An example will help. So here you go:

You'll notice there are four distinct sections on the LB: Levels, Accessories, Spells/Skills and Equipment. Each section is self-explanitory: if you want to work on your skills for the battle arena, buy licenses for the Spells or Skills areas. If you're ready to level up, do so in the Leveling section. And if you want to buy Accessories or Equipment for yourself, go to either of those areas.

If you look at the LB above, you'll notice that Penelo has already earned her Potion license in the Skills & Spells section of her LB. This means that she can purchase any of the tiles that are directly touching the Potion license. Those tiles would be Mix and Phoenix Down. Penelo would not be able to buy the Chemist license because it is diagonal from the Potion license and therefore is not directly touching it. With Penelo's LB the way that it is, all of the Licenses that she would be able to buy would be Level II & Level IV in the Levels section, Shoes I in the Accessory section, Mix & Phoenix Down in the Skills/Spells section, and Clothing I in the Equipment section. It's not too hard to get a hang of using your LB and you get tons of benefits for using it!

NOTE: If you want to buy licenses to open up levels beyond the level you're currently at, go ahead. However, you won't be able to level up beyond your card count. For example, Penelo has a card worth of 57. She just purchased Levels II, III, and IV on her LB. Since she is only worth 57 cards, she will stay at Level II, even though she now has the Licenses to level up to IV. But once she has enough cards for those higher levels, her LB will be all set; no further purchases necessary.

You'll receive a fresh License Board with your starter pack!

The Licenses - Explained!

"So now what?", you might ask. You'll want to go to the Armory for more information on the Equipment & Weapons in Synthesis and the Archives for more information on Job Classes, spells, & skills!
A few more things though.

-Every spell/skill you unlock for your job class will get you a special card for that spell/skill! Each of these spell/skill cards will be worth one in your card count!
-You can change your job class whenever you would like! You get to keep the spell/skill cards that you have left over from the job class and you can start learning more spells & skills!
-You only have to learn a license ONCE. So if you bought the Demi spell on the Dark Knight License Board, any other License Board that has the Demi spell would already be learned! You never have to learn a skill or spell twice.
-Equipment and Accessories that you gain will be used in Battle Square later on.

I've tried my best to explain all this, but if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a message via the forms page.
